Symptoms of Retroverted & Retroflexed Womb

Retroverted Womb
This position occurs when the womb is leaning against the bowels and standing straight up.

The symptoms associated with a retroverted womb can present as pressure and discomfort against the colon, constipation, irregular elimination, and foul-smelling blood at the onset of menstruation.

Because the womb is leaning onto the backside of the body, the symptoms of menstruation are more likely to manifest in the low back, legs, and digestive system.

The ovaries are typically located behind the womb and on either side, so when the womb is in a non-optimal position such as this one the ovaries and fallopian tubes are also affected, which means ovulation can be disrupted.

Because the ovaries communicate with the brain to release hormones, when the womb is in a non-optimal position this can also cause hormonal imbalances.

One way to ease the symptoms associated with this womb position is to make sure you are having good bowel movements before your menstrual cycle and ovulatory cycles begin.

This helps to lessen the pressure on the rectum and makes a bit more space for the womb to move and release the menstrual blood.

This non-optimal position may also cause discomfort during intercourse, especially in certain positions.

The positive side effect of this position is that the womb is not folded, so you typically don’t see the effects of stagnancy in the blood like you do with an anteflexed or retroflexed womb.
