How has his music shaped your life?

I went to Jamaica back in ‘99 when I was deep in herb school.

At the time, I was living in a teepee in Boulder, Colorado—living pretty roots.

I was a full-on reggae lover, a Rasta girl, wrapped in turbans, walking the natural path.

When I landed in Kingston, I found myself on the curbside with the locals, drumming on a doumbek, feeling the rhythm of the land.

It was pure magic.

Not long after, my ride arrived, and we stopped for some snacks.

That’s when I met a uniformed government official who asked what I was into.

I shared my passion for herbal medicine, and to my surprise, he asked if I’d do a consultation for the Prime Minister’s daughter.

And so I did—an unforgettable experience.

Settling into Kingston life, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, and Capleton were the soundtrack of the streets, blasting from speakers scattered throughout the city.

Later that week, I visited Bob Marley’s house on Hope Road.

His story—one we all know, one that has moved generations.

If you haven’t watched a documentary on him, do it.

And while you’re at it, add Rockers to your list.

I sat outside the room where Bob was shot, eyes closed, journeying into what once was.

A green butterfly landed on my hand.

As I opened my eyes, it turned towards me, flapped its wings, and died right in my palm.

The strangest, most mystical moment.

Jamaica is deep in my soul’s remembering.

Though I’m a white girl, the islands, the rhythm, the life—it’s all woven into me.

In honor of Bob, I wanted to share this little piece of my story with you.

What’s your favorite Bob song?
