Lost in the Dark
Shadow work cannot be done without the light to anchor it.
For three years I was in a deep apprenticeship with dying, death, and the afterlife.
It was one of the most difficult passages of my adult life.
Those years dismantled everything I thought I was.
I can honestly say that I walked through it with grace — for what I was experiencing and for what was being revealed through that afterlife apprenticeship.
At the time, I had no idea what it was guiding me toward.
I only knew that I was being asked to set everything down, to stop doing the work I had devoted my life to. So I did. I laid it all down.
Now, as I return to the field of offering my medicine, my work is showing me how profoundly that apprenticeship with dying, death, and the afterlife changed me.
It did an alchemy because I allowed it to give me a living teaching.
I gave it the time it needed to do what it came to do — to become what my work is now.
Shadow work cannot be done without the light to anchor it.
So many of us go into shadow work because we do not want to bypass.
We want to excavate the trauma, the pain, the millennia of suffering.
We want to tend that garden with devotion.
What I keep seeing is that we become lost in it — profoundly lost in the dark.
When we do our healing work, when we guide others, when we work with our ancestors and helping spirits, we must tend to both sides of this plane of existence.
The ancestors did not only bring pain and suffering.
They also brought gifts.
Even the ones who harmed, even the colonizers, even the perpetrators carried a golden thread of light inside them.
They were products of the pain they were exposed to, and within that pain there was still light.
This is what Whispers Through the Veil was born from.
It is the reorientation toward light work in the shadows — a remembrance of how to hold both: the pain and the grace, the living and the dead, the dark and the light.
If you feel the pull in your bones, this ceremony is the bridge.
The veil is open.
The ancestors are listening.
And you are being called to remember how to hold the light within the dark.
