Holy Womb, Holy Woman, Holy Descent
The spiritual path has long been described as a path of ascension. For many seekers, ascension became a way of rising above the human experience, and over time this trained them to override the body.
Over centuries, the body was named unclean. Women learned to distrust the place where their wisdom and holy power live.
When the body begins to speak, many women have been trained to override what they feel before they have had a chance to listen.
Every great mystery tradition that survived the erasure of the feminine understood that our humanity is holy and the body is sacred.
I first heard the words holy womb, holy woman, holy waters standing on the land of Avalon.
I had longed to visit that place my whole life. When I finally arrived, I felt a deep sense of coming home. The sacred springs, plants, and stones were old friends I had lost touch with. They gathered around me and opened the memory of a life I had been waiting to remember.
I could feel the pain held in the land itself. There was an old ache there, the wound of women who had learned to mistrust one another in order to survive, and I could feel it alive still in the sisterhood wound we carry today.
That journey came just before the two-year death initiation that would change the course of my life and lead to the dissolution of my work and my identity. I had no idea that Avalon was preparing me for what was to come.
What I carry now is the alchemy of every initiation I have walked through.
Across decades of sitting with women in ceremony, I have witnessed the same holy remembrance again and again. When a woman stops overriding her body and begins listening from within, something extraordinary happens.
The medicine she has been searching for begins to rise from the holy ground of who she is.
